Ecommerce in France – Le Monde

 The CEO of Carrefour presented an action plan to resume the French "leadership" last Tuesday.

Carrefour wants to reduce 5% of the total area of the group’s hypermarkets in France by 2020. The main reason is the declining turnover due to the strong competitive environment. Additionally, the firm strives to become the key player in e-commerce food with €5 billion in turnover by 2022. Meanwhile, the current total turnover of all e-commerce is €4.9 billion euros according to Fevad.

Moreover, Carrefour can count on French consumers since France is the second biggest e-commerce market regarding revenue generated by online sales in Europe, which was stated in our 2015 report.

In addition to this, food and consumer products concern 21% of buyers of products and services on the Internet, which will increase rapidly.  

In 2018, Carrefour wants to open 170 new structures. It remains to know whether these measures will allow Carrefour to go up the slope and if the real problem is not the lack of clear identity of the sign.
